Thurs. 23.04.2026 10:00 to 13:30 Recommended age: 12-16 In the Maker Lab, Headquarters A32 Rohrdamm 88 13629 Berlin
At the headquarters of the STEM heroines, a day program awaits you with three different workshops, from which you will choose two:
1. Workshop: Future Lab – Artifacts from the other end of the universe
2nd Workshop: Hollywood is counting on you – Become a film editing expert!
3rd Workshop: Light up – Design your own 3D printed lamp
On site, you will choose two of the workshops mentioned above that you would like to attend. After an introductory phase, you will begin the practical exercises. The event will conclude with a reflection phase and some small gifts from us.
You will receive final information about the schedule and meeting point by email one day before Girls'Day.
Below you will find the full description of the workshops:
1) Future Lab – Artifacts from the other end of the universe
Form a research team and uncover the secrets of strange artifacts.
In this course, you'll discover mysterious objects that don't exist in the real world. They look familiar – but their function remains a mystery. Working together as a team, you'll embark on a creative journey of discovery: What era does the object come from? Who uses it? And what could it be for?
Through storytelling, discussion, and speculation, you develop your own future scenarios. You learn to observe closely, ask questions, and establish connections between people, technology, and society – and perhaps that's the starting point for how you'll soon solve important questions about the future.
This course combines imagination with technical thinking. You'll consider not only what an object could be, but also how and why it's used. This leads to discussions about technology, design, and the future, encouraging further thought. There's no right or wrong – just plenty of room for your own ideas, exchange, and creativity.
Here's what you can expect:
🖌️ Develop creative ideas and explain them clearly
⚙️ Recognize technical and design connections
❓ Ask questions like female engineers and designers
🪄 Rethinking the future and technology together
🤝 Working in a team and contributing your own perspectives
2)Hollywood is counting on you – become a film editing expert!
Panic in the studio! The editor has dropped out, the deadline is fast approaching – and without a trailer, there's no theatrical release. Now we need someone with talent, brains, and fast fingers. We need you! 👊
The raw footage is ready. Scenes need to be edited, music found, and the perfect voice-over added. Build tension, create goosebumps – you only have a few hours.
You put on your headphones and take a deep breath. Editing, sound, pace – it's all in your hands. If you make it, the trailer will go live tomorrow. Are you ready to save the movie?📹🚀
Here's what you can expect:
📹 Basics of video editing, audio editing, music and sound effects, and voice-over
🧚Understanding the importance of storytelling in film production
🪄 Promote creativity and problem-solving skills
🙌Cooperative work and developing ideas together
3) Light Up – Design your own 3D printed lamp
Today you are an interior designer in an innovative design studio. An important task awaits you: A new floor lamp is to be presented as a prototype – by Monday!
Your task: Design a creative floor lamp using the following guidelines:
Total height: 12 cm
Width: 9.5 cm
Circular hole for the light source: 7 cm diameter
A cable duct must be taken into account in the design.
The creative design is freely selectable.
Now, creativity, technical thinking, and accuracy are required. Can you perfectly combine design and function?
Finally, we present all the finished lamps, specifically the ones you chose for this design.
Here's what you can expect:
💡Transfer your own creative lamp idea into a functional design, taking technical specifications into account
🖌️Create a digital 3D design in preparation for 3D printing
🪄 Learn the basic steps of product development from idea to design to prototype
🧠 Train spatial reasoning skills and work on a structured technical design task
🙌 Present your own design, explain design ideas and strengthen your technical self-confidence
