Playing with Geometry
This is Amanda's 2024 Christmas project. Geometry can be a lot of fun and stimulate your creativity in exciting ways. There are countless ways to bring the geometric shapes to life!
Can you find the shapes Amanda used in her Christmas video?
Instructions: Geometric Paper Mosaic
What you need:
- Colored paper (various colors)
- Scissors
- Glue (e.g. liquid glue or glue stick)
- cardboard or canvas as a base
- pencil and ruler
- if necessary, watercolor palette or acrylic paints (for the background)
- Brush (if you want to use colors)
Step-by-step instructions:
- preparing the background (optional):
- If you want to give your project a colorful background, paint the cardboard or canvas with watercolors or acrylic paints. Let everything dry well.
- Cutting out triangles (and other shapes):
- Use the ruler to sketch different geometric shapes on the colored paper, such as triangles, squares, rectangles, circles and hexagons.
- Carefully cut out the shapes with scissors. You can use different sizes and colors to make your mosaic more interesting!
- Arranging the shapes:
- Arrange the cut-out shapes on the background without glue to find an arrangement you like. Experiment with different pattern arrangements - grab the shapes and play with colors and shapes!
- Stick:
- Once you're happy with the arrangement, start gluing the shapes in place. Apply a small dab of glue to the back of each shape, then press it onto the background.
- Make sure to space the shapes evenly and not place them too close together to create a balanced design.
- Let it dry:
- Let the mosaic dry well so that everything is firmly in place. If necessary, you can weigh down the edges with a slightly heavier book (but make sure that nothing presses on the shapes).
- Complete (optional):
- You can also draw outlines around the shapes with a black pen or marker to make them stand out.
- Add additional elements such as stickers, glitter or a personal message in the center of the mosaic.
- hanging and admiring:
- Once everything is dry, you can hang your geometric mosaic or place it on a table! It will be a unique and colorful accent in your room.
There are people who are crazy about mosaics. If you walk through the world with your eyes open, you might be surprised at how many places you find mosaics.
Mosaic art dates back to ancient times, with origins in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Mosaics were often used in public buildings, temples and villas and had both decorative and symbolic functions.
Mosaic designs can include geometric patterns, floral motifs, or complex images and scenes. The arrangement of colors and shapes is crucial to the visual impact of the mosaic.
Mosaics are used in a variety of applications including wall art, flooring, table tops, decorative objects and even in architecture, such as in churches and public buildings.
It is very diverse.
Phew, that's gotten to be far too much. Maybe I should clear things up here. We started with geometry and ended with the history of mosaics. That's just how it is sometimes.
Have fun and best regards
